Howard Blumenfeld, Ph.D.
received his doctorate in Psychology and is a licensed
Marriage Family Therapist. He specializes in treating stress
disorders and has been teaching people how to reduce their
stress since 1977.
In 1995, he participated in a week long Mindfulness-based
Stress Reduction (MBSR) training program for healthcare
professionals directed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. and Saki
Santorelli, Ed.D. He has received continued MBSR training from
Universtiy of Massachucetts Center for Mindfulness staff since
1995. Dr. Blumenfeld is a long-time meditation student of
Shinzen Young, the founder of Vipassana Support International
(VSI) and has been trained by Shinzen as a Mindfulness
meditation facilitators with VSI.
Dr. Blumenfeld has been offering the MBSR training program
through his Valley Village, California private practice and
has been teaching Mindfulness meditation on local and
international retreats. In 2001 he joined the staff of
Cri-Help, substance abuse treatment centers, to provide
Mindfulness meditation training for their staff and residents.
Since 2005, he has been affiliated with the UCLA Mindful
Living Project research studies as a MBSR teacher, and in
2008, has provided Mindfulness training to the guests of
weSPARK Cancer Support Center.
Dr. Blumenfeld’s personal mindfulness practice has become part
of his daily life, both personally and professionally, and he
is grateful to have the opportunity to share this practice
and understanding with others.
